The residents of a riverrine community of Okwagbe in the Ughelli
South LGA of Delta State, was on Wednesday, thrown into pandemonium,
following the killing of one Atisin Opviarho in her farm by persons
suspected to be ritual killers.
According to a shocking report by Punch newspaper, the 65-year-old
mother-of-five, who had left with other local farmers in the early hours
of the day, and was not seen when it was time to leave, prompting
others to search for her, was later found with her throat slit.
Speaking to a correspondent, a source in the community said, “The
intention of the killers was probably to use some of her parts for
ritual.” She could not, confirm if any part of her body was taken away
by the killers.
Another resident, who identified himself simply as Mudi, added that
the corpse had been deposited in Otu-Jeremi General Hospital mortuary
pending police investigation.
The spokesman for the Delta State Police Command, DSP Andrew
Aniamaka, confirmed the killing to our correspondent when contacted on
the telephone.
Anaimaka said, “The command has started investigation into the murder of the 65-year-old woman. The culprits will be arrested.”
